Matrix Up Close

Matrix - EC/DC Motors

While EC/DC motors already afford electrical consumption levels half that of their AC equivalents, the Matrix unit offers the opportunity to reduce those levels significantly again. Also, as EC motors give off so little heat as they run, the demands made of the chilled water system will be reduced by as much as 65 Watts per fan.

Matrix - Controls

Matrix has been made possible through the bringing together of two advancing technologies; EC fan coils and native BacNet open protocol controls.

The Matrix BacNet Controller is supplied fully installed and tested as an integral part of every Matrix fan coil from Ability. The controller can operate ‘standalone’ if required but being BACnet open protocol, it is equally able to fully integrate into any modern BMS system.

To access the unique features of Matrix requires the unit controller alone, support from the BMS system or any other component is not necessary. This means that the commissioning and programming of every fan coil can be completed without any other control component being on site.

Matrix – Installed

A Matrix installation is physically the same as any other fan coil installation with a few exception; Matrix units do not require :-

  • Mechanical volume control devices to balance and set air volumes.
  • Double regulating valves or any setting of flow rates at the FCU level
  • Air flow commissioning

With Matrix this operation is performed electronically and without the need for any physical contact with the unit.

Matrix – The Concept

Matrix fan coils bring together three features that, in combination, will from this point forward, transform all fan coil unit installations.

  • Freecast -> Alter the water flow rates and air volumes with out lifting a ceiling tile.
  • EcoTrack -> Variable air volume
  • ThermaTrack -> Unoccupied thermal set back

To complete the Matrix package, all these features are available to the user through a wireless connection removing the need for physical contact with the fan coil. As all the features are user adjustable now or in the future, a Matrix installation will always be able to adapt to both a changing requirement, and if need be, more exacting legislation.
