Ability Fan Coil Units in BREEAM ‘Very Good’ Rated Victoria Street Office Refurbishment Project - Press Information

Ability Projects Ltd has supplied almost 950 off ‘Apollo 190’ EC/DC fan coil units as part of the comprehensive £155 million refurbishment of Ashdown House, 13 Victoria Street, London. Located a few minutes from Victoria Station, the updated landmark building offers around 199,000 ft2 of Grade ‘A’ office accommodation plus a further 32,300 ft2 of retail capacity at street level.

The 4-pipe Apollo units are located in ceilings throughout the 11 office floors, which vary in size from 2,900 to 38,000 ft2. Measuring 190mm in depth and supplied with Traffolyte labels, the fan coil units have capacities of 0.4 to 3.8kW (cooling) and 0.1 to 5.0kW (heating) against office design loading specifications of 12W/m2 (lighting), 25 W/m2 (office equipment) plus 5 W/m2 (spot loads). Outdoor airflow is 1.6 l/s/m2 plus 10% additional plant room allowance.

All fan coil units were supplied complete with Delta BMS controllers and return air discharge sensors with Marflow valve assemblies (4-pipe units only), comprising PICC combined commissioning and control valve, isolating valve, venturi flow measurement device and flushing bypass.

Apollo 190 EC/DC fan coil units utilise advanced EC infinitely variable speed, high efficiency DC motor technology, which brings a number of significant customer advantages in terms of both energy efficiency and controllability. At a typical fan coil duty point, the Ability EC configuration can reduce electrical input by 50-75% and a typical 2 fan unit will draw 60 Watts when powered by EC motors as against 210 Watts in AC format.

Further Information - The office block was constructed in the 1970′s and offers total floor space of 227,000 sq ft. There is 177,520 sq ft of office space and 45,370 sq ft of retail space on the ground floor. The offices were previously occupied by the Government until its lease expired. The refurbishment of the building includes over 900 EVO190 slimline fan coils with self balancing valves. Water flow rates can be altered via the BMS having been preloaded into the Ability supplied BACnet controller.
